There's a reason we use mountain metaphors to refer to things that are incredibly challenging to attain. Climbing a mountain is a massive undertaking that is not for everyone, let alone 14 of the world's tallest peaks, all of which are above 8000 meters tall. Reinhold Messner was the first, and it took him 16 years to summit them all. Nirmal 'Nimsdai' Purja intended to complete the task in seven months. In the documentary "14 Peaks: Nothing is Impossible," Nimsdai embarked on a mission that even Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay could find challenging. He intends to spearhead an all-Nepali expedition to the summits of the world's 14 tallest mountains, each of which stands more than 8000 meters (26,247 feet) above sea level.
He set six climbing world records on his path to conquering the summits of the 14 peaks. 14 Peaks - Nothing is Impossible sends a powerful message of cooperation, perseverance, dedication, and patriotism. This is the story of Nims Purja, who undertook the intimidating task of climbing the 14 tallest peaks of the world, all above 8000 m, in a span of seven months. The previous record holder took more than seven years.
14 Peaks was directed, and produced by Torquil Jones. It was executively produced by Nimsdai, together with Jimmy Chin and Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi (Free Solo, The Rescue.) Produced by Noah Media Group and Little Monster Films.
The filmmaker combines the archival footage from previous high-altitude climbs, animation, and latest interviews with other professional mountaineers. Conversations with Purja’s brother, sister and wife, as well as exquisite film of Purja with his ailing, deeply devoted mother are interwoven in the film.
His book “Beyond Possible” was released in November 2020 which is available in www.thuprai.com.
