The book starts offwith Tintin, and his dog Snowy, leaving on duty to the SovietUnion. Starting from Brussels, his train is made to explode, whilegoing to Moscow, by a member of the Soviet secret police, the OGPU.Tintin is strangely charged for the bombing by the Berlin police,but he manages to flee to the border of the Soviet Union. There, heis taken to the local Commissars office, where the same OGPU agentstarts filling the Commissars ears. After fleeing again, Tintinstarts unravelling the secrets involved in this attack. Afterwards,Tintin goes to a local election, where the Bolsheviks show theirguns at the civilians to enable their own electoral triumph.Several Bolsheviks then arrest him during the night, but hesucceeds in frightening them by putting on a ghost dress. Whiletrying to escape from the Soviet Union, he is followed andarrested. Again fleeing from his enemies, he goes to Moscow. Hethen manages to enter into a secret Bolshevik get-together. In thatconference, Tintin succeeds in obtaining the answers to all theongoing mysteries that make him understand the explanations andreasons for the mishaps that have occurred. After leaving school, he worked forthe daily newspaper, Le XXe Siecle (The 20th Century). He wasresponsibe the for the section of the newspaper designed forchildren. Tintin, the main character in his works, was introducedon January 10, 1929 in a story entitled Tintin in the Land of theSoviets.
