After a hiatus of about 11 years, author Donna Tartt brought out her much-awaited fiction novel The Goldfinch. The 784-page novel was a success both critically and commercially, having been selected as the Book of the Year 2013 by The New York Times Book Review.
The Goldfinch: A Novel (Pulitzer Prize for Fiction) is the story of a teenager Theo Decker who survives a terror assault at a museum, despite his mother being killed. As he makes his way out of the chaos, he accepts a ring and a message by an old man, upon his last request. He takes a painting along, which he believes has something to do with the old man's last wish.
Theo lives with his friends dreaming about a happy life but is however whisked away to Las Vegas along with his painting. Here he lives with his father, while befriending Boris and the two of them steal from his stepmother because Theo is planning to move to New York. The rest of the novel relates to the turn of events in their lives almost eight years later, with stunning revelations coming to light.
The book was critically well received across the world, especially in the Netherlands, the US, Sweden and Italy. The Goldfinch: A Novel (Pulitzer Prize for Fiction) was published by Little, Brown and Company in 2013, the book is available in hardcover.
