About the Book

This volume offers information on some 1,500 kinds of plants found in the country of Nepal, concentrating on the ways that various Nepalese ethnic groups utilize them to meet nutritional, medicinal, and other needs. After a brief introduction to the field of ethnobotany, the author provides sketches of the 14 major ethnic subgroups in Nepal and discusses festivals and religious ceremonies that are important to agrarian communities. However, the vast majority of the volume is taken up by the entries on the plants, each described in terms of appearance, propagation, habitat, and uses. Illustrations accompany many of the entries.
