In Volume 1, he begins with his student designs at the Vienna Technical University, his early involvement in development aid programs, and his first films, while also incorporating memories of the numerous people he had already met, worked with, or known while abroad. He finally began his significant and ongoing work in urban planning and the conservation of historical buildings in Nepal after taking second place in an international competition for a new National Library in Teheran. He then broadened his experience with projects in India, Laos, Cambodia, and Bhutan.
Together with his longtime Austrian friend and collaborator Thomas Schrom, Hagmuller focuses his attention on the Austrian Aid projects in Nepal, the Patan Museum, the Garden of Dreams in Kathmandu, and the Ta Dzong Museum in Bhutan in Volume 2. All of them quickly developed into financially successful cultural endeavors that could support themselves, garnering praise both locally and internationally for Austria's outstanding commitment to the preservation of Asia's cultural legacy.
The most significant ancient structure on Bhaktapur's main square, Chyasilin Mandal, the "Eight Cornered Gift," which had been destroyed in earlier earthquakes, was also expertly rebuilt by Hagmuller.
Finally, credit is owed to his enormous family, several longtime friends, and, last but not least, his beloved wife and most active life partner in all of these initiatives, Ludmilla Hungerhuber.
