Archaeology is the scientific study of the life and culture of past, especially ancient people, through excavation of ancient cities, relics, artefact's, etc. The discipline attempts to study about the lives and behaviour of those who lived in the past, by examining the material remains of previous human societies. It includes studying th fossils (preserved bones) of humans, food remains, the ruins of buildings and human artefact's, like tools, pottery and jewellery. By studying and examining all such things of the past, the archaeologists attempt to reconstruct past ways of life. The main idea behind collating a repertoire of archaeological terms is to provide the suers with a one-stop access place for their queries on the subject. The dictionary consists of the difficult jargon used in archeology and attempts to discuss it in simple and easy to understand language. Not only is the language kept strictly simple, but a lot of effort has also been made to enable an easy comprehension through the use of pictures and examples. Besides acting as a referral for those already in the subject, the dictionary acts as a guide for those new to the subject and thus help them enhance and enrich their knowledge.
