Dr. Sudha Sharma’s memoir ‘Singha Durbarko Ghumne Mech’ has been released.

The book chronicles Dr. Sharma’s adventure and challenges as one of the few women secretaries in the government formed post 2006 uprising. For a government that prioritized proportional representation of women as its top agenda, it was unreasonably ill prepared to accept the leadership of a strong woman. Written with wit, satire and astuteness, the book is an interesting documentation of the events that led to the People’s uprising of 2006 and the inside stories of Bureaucracy’s bumpy road to readjustment to ‘New Nepal’.
“Dr. Sharma’s book is a story of a woman, who navigates through the disabling structure of patriarchy to become one of the few who manage to hit the glass ceiling,” said Bhushita Vasistha, the publishing editor. “This book will add a meaningful dimension to the discourse of identity and gender in Nepal”
The book is the third and final in the series of Nepalaya Women Series 2020, after Durga Karki’s ‘Kumari Prashnaharu’ and Bhuwan Dhungana’s ‘Parityakta’. “We have been slow but persistent with our book launches amidst the pandemic and lockdown,” Says Saijan Maskey, CEO of Nepalaya Publications. “We have tried to update our digital outreach by releasing our first primary e-book last month and by uploading our previous publications on easy-to-operate digital platforms for Nepali readers. We believe this has helped to keep the book market afloat amidst all adversities.”
‘Singha Durbarko Ghumne Mech’ is priced at Rs 425 for the Paperback version and Rs. 595 for the hard bound. The book will be available at all leading bookstores of the country. The ebook copy can also be purchased from thuprai.com. It will also be available worldwide on Amazon.
