The Divine Comedy is widely considered as one of the most significant epic poems of the Middle Ages and the greatest literary work in Italian. Dante established the literature of Italy which provided inspiration for the larger body of western art and literature. This classic narrative poem has stood the test of time to give visions of the souls in Hell, Purgatory and Paradise through which the spiritual journey of a lifetime is represented. Throwing light on the more fundamental questions of life through the plot, Dante initiates the thought about morality, fall of mankind, sin and redemption while surfacing internal demons within a tense political atmosphere. No other poet’s work has been able to come close to the pedestal Dante has reached due to this work. It is about enlightening, awakening and placing the reader in spaces which force intellectual engagement.
