Charles Bingley, a wealthy young gentleman has arrived at Netherfield. The news causes a stir in the neighbourhood village of Longbourn, especially the Bennet household. With five unmarried daughters—Jane, Elizabeth, Mary, Kitty, and Lydia—Mrs. Bennet is desperate to attend a ball where Mr. Bingley is expected to be present. Mr. Bingley spends most of the evening dancing with Jane, and develops a fondness for her. His close friend, Mr. Darcy, a haughty man, refuses to dance with Jane’s sister, Elizabeth.
