This hapless pair [Sutar and Thule) is subsequently tricked into working for a local contractor, believing that he will get them enlisted in the British Army. They find themselves as members of a road gang that is building a road from Paro in western Bhutan over the mountains to Haa; there they work for some two years in appalling conditions on very little pay before finally running away.
