Currently the editor of Online Khabar, Basnet has also worked with Shilapatra, where he made significant strides in Nepali journalism. His first book, 72 ko Bismay (2018), examines the political aftermath of the 2015 Nepal earthquake, while his second novel, Mahabhara (2022), delves into the emotional and psychological scars left by the Nepalese civil war. His latest work, Simsara (2024), explores the intricacies of human relationships and the challenges of modern life.
