He received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2007. A UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, in 2003 he was knighted in recognition of his humanitarian services, in 2008 appointed a Commandeur of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French government, and in 2012 awarded an honourary doctorate by the University of Hertfordshire.
