Marie-Janine Calic
Marie-Janine Calic is Professor of Eastern and Southeastern European History at Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich. She was previously a senior research associate at the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP) in Ebenhausen and Berlin. On secondment from the SWP, she served as a political adviser to the Special Coordinator of the Stability Pact for Southeastern Europe in Brussels and for the UN Special Representative for the Former Yugoslavia in Zagreb. She is the editor of the journal Südosteuropa. She has published and lectured extensively about the Balkans and is a regular commentator on Balkan affairs for the media. Her main areas of research include the modern history of Southeastern Europe in the 19th and 20th centuries, the break-up of Yugoslavia, and European Balkan politics.
