Jerry developed a successful addiction treatment program through extensive research. He began researching at a time when he himself was recovering from alcohol and drug addictions. During a period of fourteen years, he uncovered dozens of techniques that had been proven effective for people who were trying to break addictions and reclaim their lives.
His research culminated in 1991 with the publication of his first book, How to Quit Drinking Without AA. After its release by New Dawn Publishing, this book quickly became a top-selling recovery title. In 1994, Jerry wrote a revised edition that was published by Prima Publishing Company. This edition was acquired in 2002 by Random House which has remained the publisher ever since.
In 2006, How to Quit Drinking Without AA reached a publishing milestone. It surpassed 100,000 copies in sales. Also there have been two foreign language editions of this self-help guide, one in Spanish (1993) and one in Russian (1997).
Jerry's second book, You Can Achieve Peace of Mind (Prima Publishing, 1994), was co-authored with yoga teacher and stress management therapist Bob Davis. This book presents over 140 methods that individuals can use to attain a calm inner-state. In 2015, a revised edition of this book was published by Sunbury Press under the title How to Achieve Peace of Mind. This book has also been published in Mandarin Chinese for distribution in China (1999).
In his third book, How to Quit Drugs for Good (Prima Publishing, 1998), Jerry rewrote his basic recovery program to help individuals who are struggling with drug addictions. Following a similar outline as in his first book, this self-help guide presents a complete program with worksheets, checklists, and exercises that help with every step of the process. In 2002, this book was acquired by Random House, where it continues to be published. A hard-cover edition of this book has also been published in Croatian (2001) and distributed in Croatia.
