Debbe Hardymon May

Debbe May was born in Savannah, Georgia, where her dad was in the United States Air Force. They moved back to her parents' home state of Kentucky, where she grew up in Lewis County, in the northeastern part of the state. She attended a four-room grade school with two grades in a room, no inside bathrooms, and no school library. She loved checking books off the bookmobile that came monthly to the school. After high school, she attended the Maysville Community College and then transferred to the University of Kentucky where she majored in secondary education (English). She returned to graduate school, earning an MA in English from Morehead State University and later an MLIS from the American Library Association-accredited University of Kentucky. She is married to Tony May, who is retired, has one son, Brandon Justice, and three grandchildren, who inspire her. Debbe is now retired from the Campbell County Public Library-Cold Spring Branch, where she worked as a children's librarian.
