This novel succeeds in an attempt to portray a rich cross-section of Nepali society, showing how caste, class, and gender influence everyday life in Kathmandu. Youngsters abandon traditions for modernity, as they prepare to go abroad for higher studies. The story is about growing up in a multifarious, almost dystopian world that Nepal has become.
