The Long September examines Nepal’s September 2025 Gen Z uprising, the political rupture it produced, and what it set in motion. Tracing the story from the streets of September through the fall of the government, the political realignments that followed, and the March 2026 general election, the book asks why the rupture happened and what it means for Nepal’s democratic future.
Drawing on firsthand accounts, field research, digital ethnography, and more than a decade of research on Nepal’s politics and governance, the book situates the uprising within a longer story of declining political trust, limited opportunities at home, mass migration, rising aspirations, widening generational divides, and growing frustration with political institutions. While Gen Z is central to the story, The Long September is ultimately about a society searching for renewal.
