Oguri & princess Terute & Okinawa‘s Grandma
Written, directed and performed by Shoko Ito
Run time: 70 min
The Play
This message, passed down from a grandmother in Okinawa who survived World War II and conveyed by Japanese theater artist Shoko Ito, delivers a profound appeal to humanity. While acknowledging the tragic reality of recurring wars, it emphasizes the preciousness and joy of life, calling for a global shift toward forgiveness and love.
- The reality of conflict: Acknowledges that humanity is inherently foolish and that war has led to destruction in every era of history.
- The value of existence: Emphasizes that despite human flaws, simply being alive is a deeply joyful and precious gift.
- A call to harmony: Concludes with a powerful message that humanity should choose forgiveness and love over hatred and conflict.
